Gabrielle Giffords Condition Upgraded to Good

Doctors treating Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Houston have upgraded the congresswoman's condition to good, another milestone in her miraculous recovery after being shot "through the brain" less than three weeks ago.

Giffords was moved from the Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center Hospital -- where she's been in intensive care since she was taken to Houston from Tucson last week -- to the nearby TIRR Medical Hermann where she'll begin therapy as she continues her recovery.

Since being shot during the January 8, shooting rampage in Tucson, Giffords has moved all of her limbs, opened her eyes, smiled, and with the help of doctors, Giffords has been able to stand on her own two feet.

Giffords' husband, Mark Kelly, has remained hopeful throughout her recovery, and says he's seen the congresswoman attempt to mouth words, an indication that she's able to speak.

Meanwhile, the man accused of shooting Giffords, and 13 others, killing six, Jared Loughner, was in a Phoenix federal court yesterday where a not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

The judge handling the case opted to keep proceedings in Phoenix, rather than move them to Tucson -- as prosecutors had requested. The judge says the request to move the trial to Tucson remains under advisement.

Loughner's next court appearance is scheduled for March 9.

Giffords tells husband happy birthday on Twitter
Congresswoman also wishes brother-in-law happy birthday, thanks hospital for cake that featured likeness of her husband

    (AP)

HOUSTON - Rep. Gabrielle Giffords wished her husband and brother-in-law a happy birthday -- and also thanked the Houston hospital where she's undergoing intensive rehabilitation for a cake that featured the likeness of her astronaut husband.

The message, posted on Giffords' Twitter page Monday afternoon, was directed toward the Twitter accounts of her husband, Mark Kelly, and his twin brother, Scott Kelly, as well as to TIRR Memorial Hermann hospital. The message also contained a link to Giffords' Facebook page, where a photo of the cake was posted.

    Complete coverage: Tragedy in Tucson

Giffords was moved to the hospital last month after she was shot through the forehead while attending a Jan. 8 constituent event in Tucson, Arizona.

Giffords spokesman C.J. Karamargin says the tweet and Facebook posting were written by a member of her staff.
